CTO – Webmaster
The webmaster is responsible for creating the look and feel of the UJPB website. They meet with the Editors-in-Chief to discuss ideas for the layout and organization of the site, the types of colors or media to use (photos, illustrations, videos, etc.), and other matters concerning the overall design and logic — however, they get reasonable creative control over the look and code. They make sure the site is attractive and intuitively navigable as possible.
Qualifications: The webmaster should at least know (or quickly learn) Git, since the website is hosted on github.io, HTML, CSS, and PHP. Experience working with JavaScript and/or remotely accessing files through FTP/SSH helps. Knowing how to apply paragraph and page styles with Microsoft Office or LibreOffice may also be useful.
Layout Designers
After articles have been selected for publication, layout designers assemble the final content, designing all aspects of the print edition of the journal.
Qualifications: Layout designers must be proficient with Adobe InDesign or Scribus, and Microsoft Office or LibreOffice, to perform their tasks. Particularly, they must know how to apply page and paragraph styles, footnotes, embed images, etc. Familiarity with Photoshop or other graphics software is also a plus. Our designers need to have an eye for simple, clear, and elegant page layout and cover designs.
Graphic Designers
Graphic designers design promotional displays, flyers, brochures, banners, distinctive logos and other graphics, and work with the layout designers on the cover of the journal. They may also work to develop material for multimedia projects and design ads for businesses that purchase advertisements.
Qualifications: Graphic designers must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop or other professional-level graphic design software in order to perform their tasks. Our designers need to have an eye for simple and clear, yet elegant design. Individuals with experience in creating digital illustrations are especially encouraged to apply.
